MKCurvy was founded from Nwamaka Agbakoba’s (Amaka) life-long passion for expressing herself through beautiful, well-tailored clothing. A childhood spent watching her Mom source and haggle for gorgeous, hand woven fabrics in the fortnightly markets in Ibadan, Western Nigeria kindled her love for African fabrics and patterns. As a plus sized teenager, Amaka has fond memories of her Mom permitting her to design her own outfits and graciously allowing her to communicate them directly to tailors to bring the designs to life.

With an MBA in Emerging Markets Finance and a career working mostly in International Development, Amaka worked in her home country Nigeria where her love for fashion was rekindled and she connected with amazing artisans to produce her designs. This group of artisans have morphed into MKCurvy’s current production network. Amaka is always looking to build capacity with hardworking artisans who are ready to compete globally. 

All production currently takes place in Africa as our nod to bringing trade and not just aid to Africa. The creativity and hard work of the African artisan is parallel to none as far as we are concerned. Most of our fabrics are therefore sourced locally from African vendors and our designs sent to African artisans to work the magic that exists uniquely in the African soul.

MKCurvy is a brand built for the modern day woman with a discerning eye for fashionable clothing made from exquisite fabrics with an African vibe. At MKCurvy, we are excited each and every day to bring new and exciting fashions to make women even more beautiful than they already are.

Although our fashions are targeted at the plus size woman, our aim is to accentuate a woman's curves regardless of size. If we haven't stocked a particular style in your size, please contact us to order one regardless of your dress size.
